We are pleased to announce the launch of a new red blend: Casa del Magnolio by Flaherty Wines. The wine was initially released at the winery in January and is now also available at La Vinoteca in Santiago.
This new project provides a channel for exploring different blends and styles outside the established parameters of our main Flaherty label, with a focus on producing a fruit-forward wine that makes a delightful pairing with more casual, everyday dining. This first version brings together four varieties from two regions: Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah from the Aconcagua Valley and Petite Sirah and País from our vineyard outside Cauquenes. The blend plays off the contrast of the elegant structure of the wines grown on the alluvial soils of the semi-desert Aconcagua Valley versus the more rustic characteristics deriving from the dry-farmed red clay soils of the Maule Valley.
Each release will vary depending on the quality and characteristics of the vintage and the whim of the winemaker. We may even release a white wine in the future.
The wine is named after the estate house where our winery is located. The property was previously part of a large hacienda called Fundo El Magnolio, after the huge magnolia trees growing in the park in front of the old adobe house. The Spanish language distinguishes between the tree (el magnoilio) and the flower (la magnolia). Hence the name, Casa del Magnolio.
